Letting the Water Work

I made my way to the studio early this rain soaked morning, chasing light.

Before I left for San Francisco a couple of weeks ago, I felt a nudging to pick up my watercolors but did not pay it much a attention. When I got back into the studio Monday, goal setting & studio dreaming for the next couple of months, I still felt drawn to watercolors & decided to lean into the nudge.

So I got me some new watercolors that reflect the color palette inspiration I added to my wall last night & sat down at the table & began the process of "letting the water work," as my watercolor teacher use to remind us to do pretty much every class.

Over the past couple of weeks thoughts regarding the concept of "home", belonging, the multifaceted nature of water, drought, resilience & succulents have been steady on my mind. So, I'm going to stick with watercolors , encaustic wax, photography, paper & maybe even a little oil & pastels to express through my work what's filling my head these days... trusting the water as I let it work and in many ways sharing the bragging rights of each piece with the water.
If I let go a bit and just let it do its thing. Which should be a hell of a lot easier than it is for me given all life has taught me about how much control I honestly don't have.  But it's not. No doubt the water & I will have a few boxing rounds ahead. We'll see.

Gosh, it's been almost a year since I've worked with watercolors in the studio. I'm not sure what kind of big magic will happen on the paper or if they'll be any magic at all. I guess that's not the most important thing anyway.
So, I'm just gonna flow with it, learn from it  and see what unfolds as we go.
