![]() Never have I longed for the coming of spring as I have this year. A few weeks ago I found myself putting aside my favorite colors of black, red and gold, replacing them with light pink, pale yellow, baby blue and spearmint. I began working on some smaller canvas surfaces as I explored new techniques to engage the Mystery and explore thoughts & feelings regarding yet another new normal. The process involves a layering of paint, scribbles, written words, paper, transfers and stamping to create an abstract conversation between color and shapes/lines. I don't know where the story is going when I make the first mark. The paintings are not planned. I allow the conversation to go where it needs to go and like John O'Donohue says about the river, I surrender to the flow and am carried by the surprise of it's own unfolding. I'm reading quite a bit of Howard Thurman, Wendell Berry, Mary Oliver & John O'Donohue these days as I work on this new collection. I am challenged and find myself divinely surprised by the textures, lines, color palettes and thoughts on creation... mystery... beauty...death their words are inspiring. Here is a glimpse of a few. If you are local or ever in Houston and would like to see them in person, contact me and we can schedule a studio visit.
