Welcome to my First Friday Gallery!
The first Friday of each month I share new work straight from Studio D for your viewing + purchasing pleasure.
The work featured today are from three series I am currently working on in the studio for Art Crawl 16 + an upcoming exhibition at the Community Artist's Collective Gallery in Houston, TX.
The first is a three piece abstract fluid painting that is from a series titled "Land + Sea," using a new fluid oil medium out of Southern France. There will be a number of these paintings from this series ranging from 4x4 inch to 48x48 inch works available in my studio at Art Crawl 16 (November 19-20).
The next two encaustic paintings are from a series titled "I Am," using the technique of photo/image transfer + collage.
This series explores the history, present realities + future of African Americans through a fusion of vintage images, sacred texts, modern writings/imagery.
The additional paintings are from a series of work reflecting on Scriptures + hymns that rekindle hope.
Thes paintings are created using mixed media techniques inspired by a philosophy I've grown to embrace in work + in life, "wabi sabi." "Wabi sabi" represents Japanese aesthetics + world view centered on the acceptance of transience + imperfection.
