The Cyanotype Process

Paint

Picture
Picture
First I apply the cyanotype emulsion onto the paper or immerse cotton fabric in it.

Once the emulsion is on the surface it sits in darkness for a few hours in order to be ready for exposure.

Exposure

Picture
Once the surface is dry, I compose my photo(s), flowers or other objects on the paper or fabric.

When the composition is in place I expose it to UV Light (the sun) for the image to print upon the paper or fabric.

Wash

After exposure, I take the print out of the sunlight so that it can  take a bath in water + eventually hydrogen peroxide.

When I want to create a different color tone, I bathe the print in coffee, tea or bleach.

Oxidation

Once the print is rinsed well, the oxidation process happens.

I let work dry for 24hrs before stitching or embellishing the print at all.
